My First Year
By J.P. Kaytrosh
As you may have gathered from the title, this is about my first year in the Archdiocesan Boy Choir. The word ‘choir’ meant only one thing before September 2000 – my school choir. And, it meant something very different.
My audition is very blurred in my mind. All I can really remember is that I was nervous and then I remember Mr. Tom’s smiling face and him telling me, “Congratulations, you are the newest member of the Archdiocesan Boy Choir.”
During my first practice, I met my ‘big brother,’ Anthony Fite, aka Chipmunk. I still remember the songs we learned that day. During my first few practices, I wondered, “What am I doing here?” But, I stuck it out and I know that it’s a lot of fun and better than watching TV on a Saturday.
I persevered through the first few months and, by November, I knew that this was the place for me. Christmas music got me hooked! And, last year was the best Christmas ever, thanks to the choir. After that, I found that there was plenty of other music that I liked. And, I’m still finding more.
